It's been a while since I've read, but I think I liked the twist at the end better than you did. I also think it pulled together some disparate threads I wasn't sure about in the beginning. But as with all creative products, evaluation is always going to be subjective.
Absolutely, and I *love* that art is 100% subjective. I think I need to reread the book. It's been a very long time and I've come to appreciate all the time and hard work necessary for writing to be good and resonate with readers. Plus, I think a lot of the Norse mythology was over my head. Like I noted in my review, though, I loved Shadow's journey for what it was. I was just expecting more, I guess...
